Boobs, Boobs, Boobs and Ranma. Season 1 Episodes 1-10 Review.

Ranma is an awkwardly comedic show full of drama, action and well… boobs.

What I like the most about Ranma is the overall situation. Ranma Saotome is a skilled martial artist and  main protagonist of the series. He and his Dad,Genma Saotome, travel to China for a training exercise. While training the two fall into a cursed spring, taking the form of any being that has drowned there before once splashed with cold water. Hot water turns them into their original form but the curse is permanent. Ranma takes the form of a beautiful young girl and his dad takes the form of a panda. And one more thing Ranma is engaged to a woman chosen by a dad that he doesn’t even know.

Through the first couple of episodes Ranma is learning to cope with his new found curse and adjust to the idea that he has to marry Akane of the Tendo family. She’s the daughter of Soun Tendo the Master of the Tendo Family Anything Goes Martial Arts dojo. Both Soun and Genma run the dojo together. Ranma constantly forgets when he’s a girl always ends up topless or having a ripped shirt across the chest. This show makes no attempt to tease or hide any nudity instead it’s right in your face. One of my favorite scenes is when female Ranma flashes her chest to gain entry into a girls locker room.

The first ten episodes mainly act as a intro to the series as many of the show’s main characters are introduced within the first 18 episodes. The problems mainly revolve around Akane and Ranma’s disdain for one another and various suitors who attempt to take either Ranma’s or Akane’s heart. One thing I love about this series is the constant awkward moments dealing with Ranma’s dual gender crisis. One minute’s he’s a guy the next he’s a girl. This makes for some very interesting and comedic moments between him and the other characters. It’s so wierd but funny how comfortable Ranma is with his female body and how he actually flirts and messes with the other male characters.

Tatewaki Kuno is probably my favorite character thus far. Tatewaki has an obsession with female Ranma who he calls the “red pig-tailed girl” and Akane. Who he never seems to make his mind as who to set his heart on. I love Tatewaki for his stubbornness, how he articulates his words and his random tangents of poetry.

My favorite episodes are the last three where Ryoga Hibiki is introduced. Ryoga sees himself as Ranma’s main rival and holds a grudge due to Ranma not showing up for a scheduled fight years back. They fight everywhere all over the dojo. Even the bath tub. That made for a funny scene. If you’re looking for a great 80/90’s anime to watch defiently do not past this one.

This is a great anime spanning over 120+ episodes, 4 movies and 11 OVAs. The first 10 episodes really kick it off.

+‘s – Lots of interesting characters. Lots of Fanservice. Right balance of comedy and romance. The backgrounds are fucking incredible. The sunsets in this series are amazing. Funny background music.
